Great shop! My husband and I were looking for a new mechanic as the one we went to prior to Joey's told me my brakes were fine. Each time I got out of my car, I would smell a hot smell and like something was overheated. Took my CRV into Joey's and low and behold my front brakes were bad. No more hot smell. Glad they found out the problem. Would highly recommend this shop. Excellent communication to the customer and excellent customer service. They have our business moving forward.

Recently I was driving through Iowa on my way to Chicago when I realized my brakes were going out. It was late at night, I saw this place on yelp, called and left a message (they had long been closed) hoping they could squeeze me in so I could be on my way the next morning. Not only did they fix it first thing the next morning, they were super quick and reasonably priced. Don't hesitate to go here!

When we were thinking of buying a used car I decided it was best to have it checked over by a mechanic. I looked on yelp and found Joey's s auto repair. He had a five star rating so I gave it a try. He definitely deserves the five stars. He did a very thorough inspection which consisted of putting it up on the hoist to look for leaks,etc., running a computer scan to see if there were any code issues, he found three, as well as taking it for a test drive. Upon completion of the inspection he gave me a written estimate of what it would cost to repair those issues. I would highly recommend anyone who is thinking of buying a used car to take it to Joey's for an inspection. He did a very thorough job, he was very honest, well worth the $50.

It's been a long time since I've felt compelled to write a review on Yelp. These days I'm only interested in doing reviews for businesses that I feel have really earned it--for good or bad.

I took my Mini Cooper to Joey's yesterday after reading some stellar online reviews. Squeaky brakes and some oil in need of a change--nothing major. I asked to have the front and rear brakes replaced, including rotors.

Caveat--I am not a car person. I am woefully ignorant on shop pricing and what your typical repair should cost. When going to a mechanic, that usually doesn't turn out so well.

After dropping the car off, I got a call later in the day from Joey letting me know that the brakes were done and that the oil was changed. He also let me know that the rear brakes were just fine, and that I didn't need to have them replaced. I was stunned. Never in my life have I had a mechanic call me and tell me that my car DIDN'T need something.

I came by and picked the car up a little bit later. Paid a very fair price for the work that was done and would have very likely paid for work that I didn't need to have done at all at another shop.

I say this without any exaggeration--Joey's Auto Shop is your best option for car repairs and servicing in the Des Moines area. I am thrilled that I have found my mechanic for the next few years while I'm here--and relieved that I can stop looking.

My first choice to have my Winnebago Rialta motorhome fixed! Joey found the problem to the LP gas leak, and showed where he turned a tiny valve off, as the three-way fridge works much better on electric plug-in or couach battery. Then the coach batteery, he replaced them gel batteries that are just awesom, and he made cables so tht it mde a whole lot easier for me to to remove the cables for winter storage. Those gel batteries did not even loose any of their charge after going through 3 winters of storage. Then my engine AC went out, he put in a new compressor, I think it is called, charged the system and all that a day before we took off for a 2000 mile trip to the east coast during the summer. Joey is by far the the best mechanic in the greater Des Moines area! He works fast, his prices are reasonable, and he is a true professional! If you have a problem with your vehicle, any vehecle, go to Joey!

Joey's auto shop was recommended by a friend years ago and now it is the only place we go. His prices are fair and he runs his shop with integrity. It's so nice to know a reliable and trustworthy mechanic.

Very good. I am very happy to find Joey's Auto Shop as I do not like those franchise places - the cost keeps going up. Joey tells you what you NEED done, quotes a very reasonable price. He also tells you what you can get done in the future. Leaves it up to you what you want to do.

Read some reviews before deciding to take my car to Joey. Got brakes replaced first and then went back and got some routine maintenance done and was very happy with both. Had some issues with the brakes and he was very flexible on replacing them at no additional cost when they were squeaky after a few months. He did a great job of laying out options on maintenance items and priority to determine what to do which was helpful for budgeting.

Joey's Auto Shop is where I'm going from now on if ever I need repairs. Not only is Joey knowledgeable and competent but he is friendly and honest. He definitely could have charged me more for my last repair if he wanted to and I would have been none the wiser. But he didn't. He was honest and that means so much to me. He's a mechanic you can trust. Like I said, this is where I'm going from now on.

Joey has done an excellent job with everything from a simple oil change to a more complex situation that took some digging to get down to the problem. He has been extremely fair on price, and has even given recommendation for some work outside of his scope of business.

No surprises, just great communication and solid service. Joey was upfront with price to review my car. He called me and explained in understandable terms what the result was and how much it would cost. He noted that my non-working alternator looked new and should be under warranty. He helped get the part covered under the warranty instead of buying a new one. Joey also kept in contact through phone calls/texts on the progress and any changes in estimated delivery time. I will return to Joey's for future car service needs.

Joey changed my timing belt and my water pump about 7 months ago. I decided to wait to write the review so I could see how the car was doing and it's still running great! He seemed honest and told me the truth about my car without trying to push other services on me. I hate it when mechanics try that bs. Joey was cool. Affordable and quick. After less than satisfying experiences with Foreign Auto Repair shops I went on the web and found Joeys. He gave me a estimate then proceeded to do a great job on my Audi TT Quattro. Our family mechanic had surgery recently, and my husband and I have been burned by a couple "chain" mechanic shops so when the brakes on our minivan started grinding, we were a little apprehensive about having to find a new mechanic to fix them. Joey's was recommended to us & rightfully so!

Service was great from the get-go - I was able to get service scheduled for the day after I called & talked to Joey. He called me back after checking the van with an itemized estimate of the work that needed to be done and the costs. The labor and parts rates were both extremely reasonable. When we picked the van up, the estimate was right on and the work was done perfectly.

I also appreciated Joey taking the time to answer my husband's questions - Joey also showed my husband the parts he replaced and explained what they did and how they had malfunctioned.

I'm extremely pleased with the ease of scheduling service, the quality of the work and the superb customer service we received. Needing a car repair is never a fun experience but having a mechanic that you can trust definitely lessens the stress. I have already recommended Joey's and will definitely be a repeat customer.

AWESOME!!! Great mechanic, honest and helpful. Teenage daughters car was shot - transmission finally went on it. Told us to be looking for another car, hers just wasn't worth putting more money into. After moving from Des Moines, I still return (2 1/2 hours) to Joey's Auto Shop for all of my automotive repairs.  For an honest mechanic who will fix your car right the first time at a great price, Joey's Auto Shop is your guy!

Joey is amazing!  He's worked on several of my cars, with integrity, honesty and always beating any other deal.  He comes highly recommended in my book!

I'm not local to the area but I just had the pleasure of working with Joey and needed to leave a review for him.

At first I was a little thrown off by the residential-area neighborhood his garage is in. I was all by myself and pulling into a random garage behind a house put me a little on edge.

That said, don't even think twice about it. Joey is probably the best guy I'll have ever found to work on a vehicle. I only wish I lived in Iowa, or he lived in California.

I originally went in because I thought I just needed my A/C recharged. I did need it recharged, but it turned out to be the least of my problems. He completed the EVAC and recharge, but something still wasn't right. After 2 hours of testing, trials and tribulations, Joey confirmed our worst fears: the compressor needed replacing.

And that's when Joey blew me away: Instead of charging me for the full 2 hours of work, he only charged me for the portion that benefited me -- his final diagnosis. To save me from leaking freon issues, he sucked that back out and charged me for less than an hour of work (and much less than he'd quoted me before I came in).

If I were in the area longer I'd be back there in a heartbeat to have him finish the job on a day with more time, but unfortunately we're on the road again tonight.

Moral of the story: Joey is a very intelligent, fair guy to have working on your car.

I have to agree with the other that Joey's is a good place to take your car. I live near downtown and although it was a bit of a drive to go to his shop, it was definitely worth it! I thought he did an awesome job and for a good price. He was honest about what the parts and labor costs and tried to find me something for what I could pay which I really appreciate. In addition, he seems like a  nice and genuine person, I will def be back!

We got lucky and found Joey.  He has worked on both mine and my husbands car/suv for different issues that arise.  Each time he has had the work done same day and very fair prices.  I even called the auto dealers to compare pricing and he is usually about half the price.  He is very nice and we have referred friends and family to him.  He will be our mechanic in the future as well, even if we move further away.  He has also told me to just swing the car or SUV by anytime I think there may be something wrong with it and he will take a look at it no problem.  Highly recommended.

Joey is great! He takes good care of my car, his prices are great, and he doesn't talk down to me (like some other repair shops I've been to). I always know I'm going to get great service when I take my car to Joey. Even though it's a little bit of a drive for me to get to his shop, I happily make the trip because it's worth it! This is my first time with Joey's Auto Shop and I have a Volvo that requires brake job. They had me scheduled in a very professional manner and offered me rides both way to and from work. The price is very reasonable compared to other "brand" shops and let alone dealership. I don't know how the work is yet but so far I am very impressed by their professionalism and good customer services!

Joey is an honest mechanic who fixes the problem the first time without trying to sell you other services you don't really need. Plus, his prices can't be beat!
